Early voting for Illinois’ primary election begins today and runs through Saturday, March 15th. I voted this morning in Urbana and encourage you to do the same! Early voting is one of the easiest and most convenient ways for you to take part in our democracy. You can find your nearest polling place here. (Be aware that some of the the smaller counties data hasn’t been updated from 2013.)
While Republicans in other states are trying to restrict voting rights, Illinois has led the way in opening up access to the ballot box. I am proud to have supported legislation in the State Senate to expand early voting opportunities, allow 17 year olds to register and vote in primaries, and finally bring online voter registration to Illinois. I will continue to support these efforts as State Treasurer because we need to ensure that more people, not less, have an opportunity to get involved in the democratic process.
Since I began my campaign for Treasurer, I’ve been talking to Illinois residents about the issues that matter most to them: restoring ethical integrity to the Treasurer’s office, making college tuition more affordable, and supporting our small businesses. If we’re serious about implementing this agenda, I’ll need your support in the primary and November’s general election.
