Mike Frerichs Calls on Tom Cross to Support Raising Illinois’ Minimum Wage
Springfield, IL- On Tuesday, May 20th, Representative Tom Cross was one of only three State Representatives to “not vote” during the roll call for HB 3814. HB 3814 passed the House and would allow Illinois voters to decide on raising the minimum wage in a statewide referendum this November.
State Senator Mike Frerichs, Democratic nominee for State Treasurer, released the following statement responding to Cross’ blatant disregard for Illinois working families;
“I am disappointed that Representative Tom Cross couldn’t bring himself to vote to raise the Illinois minimum wage for the third time in his legislative career. In 2003, 2006, and now 2014, Tom Cross has opposed a common sense measure that benefits 1.1 million Illinois workers, pumps tens of millions of dollars into our state’s economy, and ensures that an honest day’s work leads to an honest day’s wage.
The voters of Illinois deserve to know if their next Treasurer will support the working people of this state. Will Tom Cross continue his opposition to raising the minimum wage as he has for the past ten years, or will he fight for citizens just trying to make ends meet?
I again call on all Illinois citizens to sign my petition at www.FrerichsforIllinois.com/supportminwage and tell Tom Cross that you repudiate his indifference to Illinois working families trying to support themselves.”
