State Sen. Mike Frerichs, D-Champaign, has reserved $1.1 million worth of TV air time in his bid to become Illinois Treasurer, the campaign has confirmed to Early & Often.
Frerichs, a Certified Public Finance Officer and former county auditor, is up against Republican Tom Cross in the Nov. 4 election. Cross, of Oswego, is the former Republican Minority Leader in the Illinois House.
The $1.1 million ad buy, may be the largest statewide ad committment outside of the governor’s race.
Frerichs has the money to do it. In June, he closed out the second three months of the year with $1.3 million in his campaign account. By comparison, Cross had about a $500,000 balance for the same period.
