DuQuoin, IL- Attending today’s DuQuoin State Fair Parade, State Senator Mike Frerichs (D-52) announced the endorsement of leading Democratic elected officials from across Southern Illinois.
State Senator Gary Forby (D-59), State Representative Jerry Costello II (D-116), State Representative John Bradley (D-117), State Representative Brandon Phelps (D-118), along with the unanimous endorsement of “The Southern 20” Democratic County Chairmen, all announced their support for Mike Frerichs in his race for State Treasurer.
“I’m honored to have the support of my friends and colleagues. Illinois is a big and wonderfully diverse state, and having the support of these Democratic leaders in the Southern portion of our state means everything to me,” Frerichs said.
“It’s time that Downstate Illinois had a larger voice in state government, and that’s why I stand with Mike Freichs,” State Senator Gary Forby said. “I know Mike and I know he is a man of integrity, working class values, and is committed to Downstate communities. In the Senate Mike is Chair of the Higher Education Committee and was past Chair of the Agriculture and Conservation Committee, so he understands two of our biggest strengths which will serve our region well when he is our next State Treasurer,” Forby continued.
“Southern Illinois is a region often overlooked by Springfield, but with Mike I know he understands our region, our unique challenges, and honors the incredible strength of our people and communities,” Representative Brandon Phelps said. “I strongly support Mike and will work every day to make sure that he’s elected as our next State Treasurer.”
Earlier this week the 20 Democratic Chairmen of Illinois’ southernmost counties, referred to as “The Southern 20”, unanimously endorsed Mike for State Treasurer. This strong and early level of support further enhances Mike’s leading position in the race for the Democratic nomination for State Treasurer.
